This article discussed the deltaic coasts, and how they are ‘dynamic
geomorphic systems’ where there are continuous changes that occur on ‘diverse
spatial and temporal scales’. These changes are an important aspect of their
evolution. The authors conducted a three-year study based on satellite-derived shoreline
data, also analyzing wave data and hydro-meteorological data of the Niger
Delta. They came to various results, including that 9.1 km of deltaic last was
lost to erosion from 2010 to 2012.
