Find a Mineral
In Salt Lake City, there are many minerals around. One of the minerals I found myself drawn to was topaz. Topaz is also Utah's state gem. Topaz can be found in Juab County here in Utah. It is on what is called the Topaz Mountain.
Topaz is one of more well-known mineral and gem. It has a hardness scale of 8.
Topaz has been known for its yellow-orange color. However, there are also many other colors (even no color) as well. Topaz is more commonly found to be colorless. But I find it interesting how people manipulate topaz's color by using heat, metallic coatings, or radiation to make it more desirable to buy.
I also think it is really cool on what we can create with all these types of minerals. In Salt Lake City, there's a cute shop named "Mineral and Matter" where one can find authentic jewelry from various minerals.
