GeoJournal 1: Geology in My Life

Geology in My Life

When I first read this question, I did not have a clue. My mind went blank as I walked home from work. I was certain there was some sort of geology in my life.

In reality, geology is all around me. Quite literally too. Every day when I walk outside, I am surrounded by these vast mountains. Visitors from other places in the world often comment on how the mountains are truly a beautiful sight. Growing up in Arizona, I also lived in a valley, but the mountains were not as prominent.

In the text, it mentioned how the acceptable age of earth is 4.6 billion years old. I ponder nowadays as I walk home and am truly astonished how that number, for the lack of better words, wild. But then again, time was how these mountains were created for man to later create civilization. As the text mentioned:

"Although rocks may seem to be unchanging masses, the rock cycle shows that they are not. The changes, however, take time -- vasts amount of time"  (27)

The mountains can be seen in the far background in the picture, reminding me that I live in a valley.
Salt Lake City, Utah.

In my local area, geology has utilized for aesthetic purposes, especially rocks. As I went to explore outside, I noticed how nicer homes had some type of rock touch for their home. I believe rocks in the house below complete that "modern" house aesthetic.

In addition, the LDS Conference Center right down the hill have rocks that is aesthetically pleasing to look at. Whenever I walk home or wait for the bus, I feel relaxed when I am standing near this area. It reminds me of bit of a creek. Despite living in the city, when I look at these rocks, I feel a sense of peace in me; it reminds me of nature.

Geology is prominent in my life. When I go out for my daily run, I have never taken into account the gravel under my feet. It helps me keep my ground. (Get it?)  The gravel also makes it beautiful for visitors to take pictures and spend time with their families.
